Repeated use of EC pills: What to know?

January 2025. ECEC just published “Repeated use of emergency contraceptive pills. Summary of current recommendations“. The document summarizes what is known about repeated use of emergency contraception (EC) pills (with levonorgestrel and with ulipristal acetate), and is based on recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare.

The document is aimed at the general public, advocates, pharmacists, policy makers, as well as journalists. Understanding how EC pills work, including how they work when used repeatedly, is important to avoid overestimating their effectiveness and to advise individuals on how to best use them.
